Contribution From Hub City Cycles
Local non-profit cycling co-op Hub City Cycles has pledged to donate a generous $15,000 to the NRRTP over the next five years. Long-time supporters of Bike to Work Week and involved in youth education, Hub City Cycles says "we feel the Rail Trail is something that would really benefit our community. We donated to the Rail Trail as they fit well with our mission statement [which is] to be a resource that nourishes the neighbourhoods in and around Downtown Nanaimo".

This significant sum will go towards the construction of the Downtown portion of the trail, which is the trickiest and most costly because of its many crossings and engineering considerations. Andre Sullivan says "such a large donation took us by surprise. It shows great leadership and forward thinking on the part of Hub City, as well as support of the cycling community here in Nanaimo. This donation is a great example of their desire to use their co-op's profits to make a better community for us all." We encourage you to stop by their shop at Lois Lane to thank them for their support, and find out more about the co-op.
